JAR PPL Flying Rates
J.A.R. Private Pilots Licence
This Licence conforms to a European standard, which means it entitles the holder to fly a British or European registered aircraft in any of the countries that conform to the J.A.R. standard.( Currently 29.)
It is also possible to add ratings to this licence, like the Multi Engine, Complex Single, I.M.C. or Night rating. This is not possible with the recreational NPPL.

Minimum Flying Experience Requirements

45 hours total flying time. Of this total there must be a minimum of 10 hours solo time, 5 hours of which must be Navigation flights. There must also be a solo qualifying cross country of 150 nautical miles, involving landing at 2 different airfields.

Age Requirements

Students must be at least 14 before they can log flying time, 16 before they can fly solo, and 17 before they can apply for their licence.

Medical

The student will need to hold a Class 2 medical before he flies solo. This has to be carried out by approved Medical Examiners, usually G.P’s. who hold CAA approval. We can arrange this for you.

Theory Examinations

There are exams in 6 subjects which must be passed before taking the Flight test. They are multi choice type exams an last 30 to 40 minutes each. The subjects are:

  • Aviation Law
  • Aircraft Technical & Principals of Flight
  • Flight Performance & Planning
  • Navigation
  • Meteorology
  • Human Performance & Limitations

There is also a short Radio Telephony exam, Oral & Written.

Flight Test

Students are tested on their navigation skills ( 1 hour approx ) and their general handling skills (1 hour approx.). This can be taken over 2 flights if the student wishes.
