The Company
Welcome to Ayroplanes.co.uk. We are a Flying Training organisation based at Prestwick International Airport, and provide training for all British and European Private Pilot Licences plus IMC & Night ratings, as well as introductory Trial Lessons.
We fly the wonderful Grumman AA5 type aircraft which has good safe handling characteristics for training, but at the same time, has light and responsive controls which makes them so pleasant to fly. They are also efficient and fast.
Flying at Prestwick
For those considering a venue to commence training, I would suggest that Prestwick is probably the best in the U.K. It has all the facilities of an International Airport, but is still quiet enough to allow good progress during PPL training. Integrating with commercial traffic also encourages good radio discipline, which gives the student confidence when encountering a busy traffic environment.
For potential IMC rating students, Prestwick has all the Instrument approach aids required for the rating, so no time wasted in transit to other airports.
Prestwick also has a unique micro climate, which often means we can be flying here when the rest of the country is grounded.
Within 1 hours flying time from Prestwick, we have destinations like the Western Isles – Islay, Mull, Colonsay, Tiree, Gigha, and places such as Oban, Isle of Man or Northern Ireland. All accompanied by dramatic scenery.
Security is a major issue at airports these days, but it is still relatively straight forward getting to and from the apron. Students have to obtain a security pass, which is valid for 3 years.
